Rolls Royce Museum at Sinfin, Derby

On Thursday the 16th. of November 2017, about 35 people were treated to a very interesting tour of the Rolls Royce Museum at Sinfin in Derby. The tour, which last about an hour, covers the history of the development of the Rolls Royce car and aero engines from the earliest years right up to the present day and is conducted by volunteer retired Rolls Royce engineers, who are excellent guides and ambassadors and I would recommend the tour to any BTPF branch looking for outings for their members. The minimum number required for a tour is ten and larger groups are split up so that each guide has between 15 and 18 people to take round. Anyone wanting more details can contact Reg Sargeant on 07508846988 or email reginald.sargeant@gmail.com

Our visit was organised for us by Chris Nutty and Shirley Handley, who organise educational courses and visits on behalf of ASLEF, who receive grants from the Government to pay for the courses and visits, on condition that they can be shown to be for educational purposes. To cover this, each attendee has to fill in a form to satisfy the requirements and criteria laid down by the Department for Work & Pensions, who then pay for the course or visit.

After the visit, most of the people who went on the tour returned to the Alexandra pub near Derby station for ‘lunch’, including a buffet paid for by Chris and Shirley.

Future visits being looked at by Chris Nutty are to Marston’s brewery museum in Burton on Trent and Hendon air force museum.
