In November 2024 Dorothy Chiles, who was one of our branch Committee members, was attacked on the concourse of Birmingham New Street station and received injuries which a subsequent inquest decided had resulted in her death on the 27th. of December 2024. Dorothy was aged 87 when she passed away.

British Transport Police arrested Dorothy’s alleged attacker at the scene of the attack and initially charged her with Grievous Bodily Harm. But, after Dorothy passed away, the police started collecting further evidence to present to the Coroner. Unfortunately this meant that Dorothy’s family had to anxiously wait many more months to finally lay her to rest.

On the 1st. of April 2026, twenty seven months after Dorothy passed away, 26 year old Charlie Lane of Marlborough Road, Gloucester has been charged with Manslaughter and a Racially Aggrevated Public Order offence and has been released on conditional bail to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on the 30th. of April.
